Editorial Standards
These standards describe how Cancerews chooses, reports, checks and corrects its stories.
What we cover
Cancerews reports news on cancer research, treatment, screening, prevention and care. We cover findings published in peer reviewed journals, announcements from research institutions and health organisations, and developments in health policy and services.
Sources
Every research story names the study it is based on and, wherever possible, links to the original paper or its DOI. We prefer primary sources over press coverage of them. Quotes are attributed to named people and to the organisation they speak for.
Reporting research responsibly
We say what kind of study a finding comes from, such as a laboratory study, an animal study, an observational study or a randomised trial, and at what phase. We report the size of a study and its limits where these are known. We avoid language that overstates what a single study shows, and we do not describe early results as cures or breakthroughs.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and say so at the foot of the article, with the date of the correction.
